Lesson 11 Quiz

Why did JK Rowling find it hard to hold down a job?

1. She waved a stick at customers claiming it was a magic wand and that she knew a spell that would make them shrivel up.
2. She kept calling her boss 'a dumb muggle'.
3. She was fired for writing stories while at work.

She was fired from her position as a secretary because she was writing stories instead of working.

If you haven't read Harry Potter, Muggles are non-magical people.

Why did Thomas Edison find it hard to hold down a job?

1. He kept setting up secret laboratories in his workplaces. In one case, this led to a fire starting on a train. In another, acid spilled down into his boss's office on the floor below.
2. He never said 'hello' to customers. He insisted on saying 'wazzuuup?'

Edison perfected the light bulb and invented lots of other things. He's famous for trying again and again and never giving up.

As far as I know, nobody in the world said 'wazzup?' before 1999.

Why is this situation unusual?

2. Because Hugh Jackman says this to everybody he meets and no-one knows why.

A long time ago, before he starred in The Prestige, the best movie of all time, Hugh Jackman was a PE teacher (sports teacher) in England and years later one of his students was asking him questions at a film festival IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY.

Why do the ship's crew laugh when Captain Jack Sparrow announces that he is going to take it over?

1. Because Cap'n Jack sounds just like Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones.
2. Because the ship is too big to be crewed by two men.

It's true that Johnny Depp based his performance of a mad alcoholic pirate on Keith Richards, but the sailors in the movie don't know that. They think it's funny that Sparrow thinks he can sail a huge ship with just 2 men.

And they are right - he can't. But he has a trick up his sleeve...

What's happening in this gif?

1. The man accidentally phases out his computer system.
2. The man's computer suddenly learns how to blend in with its surroundings.

Yes, he phases out his old technology. Obviously this is a joke. In the real world, phasing it out would mean slowly using this computer less and using something else (like a new iPad) more.

On a related note, never type 'google' into Google because you might break the internet.
